![]() It’s far and away the easiest thing to check. The first thing that you’re going to want to do is check the PCV valve. When you see blue smoke, you need to find out how oil is getting into your Escape’s combustion chamber. They are caused by different engine problems. If one of the plugs has gone bad, it’s going to cause blue smoke until the motor has warmed all the way up.īlue smoke is different than white or black smoke. Glow plugs warm up the engine enough for the combustion of diesel fuel when a diesel engine is cold. Usually it’ll be a big plume of blue smoke as this happens. When a turbocharger goes bad, it will allow oil to get sucked into the combustion chamber. If it stays open, oil will build up in the intake, and you’ll end up with blue smoke coming from the exhaust as this oil is burnt.Īs auto manufacturers constantly push for better fuel economy, turbochargers have been finding their way into regular, everyday vehicles. It opens and closes, which keeps the intake free of oil. Your Escape’s PCV system is responsible for taking the pressure that builds up in the oil pan and moving it to the intake side of the engine. This is most common in high mileage engines and is a sign that the bottom end has worn out. When the piston rings fail, oil passes through them and into the combustion chamber, and you’ll get blue smoke from your exhaust. This keep oil out of your Escape’s combustion chamber. On top of this, piston rings are wrapped around the piston for an even tighter fit. The gap between the cylinder wall and the piston is so tiny that you can’t get a piece of paper in-between them. But, it’ll be at its worst when the engine is starting up, as oil has had time to seep past the valve seals while it’s sitting.Įach piston in the vehicle’s engine is responsible for compressing the air and fuel mixture into a smaller and smaller space before the spark plug fires. If your Escape’s valves are worn, you’ll see a hint of blue smoke while the engine is running. Valve seals are utilized to keep the oil from riding down the valve stem and into the combustion chamber while the valves are letting air and fuel into the cylinder. They are lubricated like the rest of the motor. Your Ford Escape’s valves let both air and fuel into the combustion chamber. Here are the most common causes of blue smoke coming from your Escape’s exhaust: The question is how is oil getting into the combustion chamber?īlue Smoke From Exhaust Causes: Ford Escape Reasons for blue exhaust smoke include bad valve seals, valve train wear in general, the PCV valve, burning transmission fluid and more.īlue smoke indicates that your Escape’s engine is burning oil. A very common problem that affects all vehicles (including the Ford Escape) is blue smoke coming from the exhaust. ![]() Thus does each soul create its own destiny through thought, feeling and action. ![]() If we love and give, we will be loved and given to. All faults on this map are considered "active" faults meaning that the fault has generated an earthquake within the past 10,000 years - the end of the Pleistocene Ice Age. East of the main fault, several small faults break through the surface in the Antelope Flats area. The most recent fault map for the Jackson Hole valley highlights the Teton fault along the eastern edge of the Teton Range (the redlines on the map). From crude estimates of where the fault broke the surface to extemely detailed mapping using a process called Lidar (Light Detection and Ranging) geoscientists have created very accurate maps of the Teton fault. In Grand Teton National Park, the understanding of the Teton fault has evolved with time. Stay tuned! The results of some trenching field studies have yet to be published. Smaller trenches dug around Leigh Lake by hand may seem insignificant, but can provide valuable earthquake data. The dramatic trench dug at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in 2017 captures the imagination. The oldest event was about 10,000 years ago, the second one about 8,000 years ago, and the most recent one about 5,900 years ago. Ongoing research on the Teton fault currently records three earthquakes in the past 10,000 years ranging in magnitude from M6.6 to M7.2. Carbon-14 analysis of organic matter in the layers allows scientists to estimate the age of past earthquakes. The amount of offset between sediment layers is related to the size or magnitude of the earthquake. Geoscientists dig trenches across scarps, and map out the sediment layers broken by the fault. In addition to earthquake location, fault scarps can provide information about the timing and size of past earthquakes. Right - Leigh Lake hand-dug small trench. If we could drill a hole through all of the sediments and sedimentary rock in the valley, and find the same layer of sandstone found on the top of Mount Moran, that sandstone would be buried about 20,000 feet. ![]() Hundreds of earthquakes over millions of years has lifted the range, even as erosion wears it down. Each movement results in about 1 to 3 feet up for every 4 to 12 feet down. With stretching, the two blocks of rock hinge past one another - one tilting skyward, one downward - generating earthquakes as they move. The Teton fault is a "normal" fault caused by regional stretching and extends down into the earth's crust at about a 50 degree angle dipping off to the east. This fault is a crack in the earth's crust due to tectonic forces. Today, geoscientists recognize the fault along the eastern margin of the range. Even though these early explorers did not understand the science behind the fault, they realized that powerful forces had changed the landscape. The earliest exploration surveys, such as the Hayden Survey of 1872, recognized the presence of the fault along the base of the Teton Range. ![]() How many times can I re-activate my license? Yes the cost difference is minimal and it's the same work for a 100 or 200 amp service change but the OP just wants the panel changed. If you sell that's a actual upgrade you can add in as value It's not cost effective to change a 100 amp with another 100 amp. The reason I say upgrade is because there is minimal cost difference if you're doing a complete change out upgrade. You'll still only have a 100 amp service. Lots of times you can change the " guts" (buss bars and in turn upgrade to newer style Square D or GE breakers) without replacing the actual enclosure. What about my needing to upgrade to a newer box simply becasue these older 'pushmatic' breakers are outdated and replacement parts are supposedly hard to come by? Keep in mind we are not interested at all in upgrading from our current 100 amp and in fact use less electricity now being appliances, lights etc are consuming less than ever. The apartment i live in now has 3 apartments on a 200 amp service and again that is perfectly fine same with the last place i lived 3 apartments on a 200 amp service. The only benefit of a 200 amp panel is more spaces. The power company has plenty of data of power usage and they size wire based on that. The NEC has their own codes on sizing service conductors and the POCO has their own code for sizing service drops. For example in PA and NJ a house with a 200 amp service will use 4/0 AL but the service drop from the poco to the house is only a #2 AL. The power company knows this too that's why the wire size they use is much smaller. Most loads in a home are not continuous loads. Absolutely superior service. In the 20+ years I've been an electrician most homes that have 200 amp services do not need it. The HVAC guys are happy campers as well because now they can finish up the new system install. Opened it up and it's a perfect match to the breaker it’s replacing. I found a UPS box on my front stoop the next morning, Tuesday. She called me back within an hour and said she had one. Told her what was up and sent a pic of the blown breaker so she knew exactly what to would replace it. Gave them a call and got a support rep named Amanda. So I tried a couple of searches and found these guys, 500 miles from me. It was an old, discontinued Crouse Hinds 13207 and they told me it would be either find a replacement breaker or they'd have to install an entire new panel. The 50amp breaker feeding heat pump fried when the compressor seized. But when they tried to test it, no power. HVAC guys installed a new system for my office last week. After we got the leak fixed, the ceiling opened and dried out, and the everything replaced and painted, the problem was resolved (albeit after much time and expense). It was caught within a day, but not before destroying the ceiling below the room. Naturally, a low pressure fire sprinkler line sprang a leak. The property was large, and during the sale it was vacant. I recently was helping a client sell a home. My desire to explore water leak detector options further came after some firsthand experience. The ideal of course is to avoid potential water damage by correcting issues before they become a major problem. From ice dams to pin-hole pipe leaks, roof leaks to failed angle stops – a little water leak can do a LOT of damage to a home. If there’s one thing homeowners know, it’s that water is the enemy. |
